Excising a boosted rotating black hole with overlapping grids

چکیده
1550-7998=20 We use the overlapping grids method to construct a fourth order accurate discretization of a first order reduction of the Klein-Gordon scalar field equation on a boosted spinning black hole background in axisymmetry. This method allows us to use a spherical outer boundary and excise the singularity from the domain with a spheroidal inner boundary which is moving with respect to the main grid. We discuss the use of higher order accurate energy conserving schemes to handle the axis of symmetry and compare it with a simpler technique based on regularity conditions. We also compare the single grid long-term stability property of this formulation of the wave equation with that of a different first order reduction.

Gravitational waves from the 3D collapse of a neutron star to a Kerr black hole
We present the gravitational waveforms emitted when a neutron star, modeled as an initially uniformly rotating polytrope, collapses to a Kerr black hole. We investigate the gravitational collapse by carefully studying not only the dynamics of the matter, but also that of the trapped surfaces, of both the apparent and event horizons formed during the collapse. The use of these surfaces, together...
متن کاملRelativistic MHD and black hole excision: Formulation and initial tests
A new algorithm for solving the general relativistic MHD equations is described in this paper. We design our scheme to incorporate black hole excision with smooth boundaries, and to simplify solving the combined Einstein and MHD equations with AMR. The fluid equations are solved using a finite difference Convex ENO method. Excision is implemented using overlapping grids. Elliptic and hyperbolic...
متن کاملBoosted quantum black hole and black string in M-theory, and quantum correction to Gregory-Laflamme instability
We take into account higher derivative R4 corrections in M-theory and construct quantum black hole and black string solutions in 11 dimensions up to the next leading order. The quantum black string is stretching along the 11th direction and the Gregory-Laflamme instability is examined at the quantum level. Thermodynamics of the boosted quantum black hole and black string are also discussed. Esp...
متن کاملThe relativistic shift of narrow spectral features from black-hole accretion discs
Transient spectral features have been discovered in the X-ray spectra of Active Galactic Nuclei, mostly in the 5–7 keV energy range. Several interpretations were proposed for the origin of these features. We examined a model of Doppler boosted blue horns of the iron line originating from a spot in a black hole accretion disc, taking into account different approximations of general relativistic ...
متن کاملGeneral Relativistic Magnetohydrodynamic Simulations of Collapsars: Rotating Black Hole Cases
We have performed 2.5-dimensional general relativistic magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) simulations of collapsars including a rotating black hole. This paper is an extension of our previous paper (Mizuno et al. 2004). The current calculation focuses on the effect of black hole rotation using general relativistic MHD with simplified microphysics, i.e., we ignore neutrino cooling, physical equation of s...
